Historical Reference
The Lævateinn was the weapon crafted by Loki, the Trickster God of Norse mythology. Loki was known for being neither fully good nor evil since his main aim was always to create chaos, to usurp power structures and social orders which had become too self-assured of their righteousness; he was "Chaotic Neutral" personified, or rather deified. The first mention of the Lævateinn comes from the Poetic Edda tale Fjölsvinnsmál where it was referred to as 'Hævateinn' (Sure-Striking Arrow). 'Hævateinn' only took on the name 'Lævateinn' (Wounding Wand / Wand Of Destruction) when the Norwegian linguist Sophus Brugge published his revision of the Poetic Edda in 1867.
The weapon skill Vidohunir refers to the reason Loki made the staff, to defeat 'Víðópnir'/'Víðófnir'; a rooster that sits at the top of Mímameiðr, a tree often taken to be identical with the World Tree Yggdrasil.
