Talk:Red Mage 101
This is a copypasta from the Allakhazam RDM 101 (I am the original author). It needs a lot of wiki-ifying, and some updating of information. It's very rough currently, and still references the forums. This is my initial attempt. --Liselle 11:17, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
This is quite well written and includes a lot of great information. Thanks.--Genosync 14:50, 3 October 2007 (CDT)
- I'm glad you like it. It was getting stale, and putting 101 here has already resulted in some needed updates and tweaks (and grammar fixes, whoops). I'm hoping that the guide living on BGwiki means it will always be relevant to an RDM that comes here looking for info. --Liselle 15:57, 3 October 2007 (CDT)
Hey Liselle: just a quick note, there was an update that changed Convert. If you attempt to use it at 0MP, it WILL not reset the timer, merely says you are unable to use the ability. I tested it myself, and Rocl did too after arguing with me for 5 minutes. ;)
I also haven't gone over this with the grammarhammer yet; I can always alter it then. :) -- Ashira
- You know it's funny, I knew that (from reading your post) but keep forgetting to change it. I'll do it now. Thanks for the heads-up, and good luck with the hammer, I think Cataru got a lot of the low-hanging fruit. ;) --Liselle 11:55, 9 October 2007 (CDT)
Excellent guide, I hadn't seen this in a while, nice to see it's got /BLU possibilities and such too. Any plans to add /DNC and /SCH as subjob possibilities? I haven't tried /DNC myself but I suspect it has pretty good solo and tanking potential. The only problem with /DNC being that en-spells and sambas will not stack. /SCH can be useful for main healing in any party that you don't need Curaga and -na spells, with the availability of Regen II. /SCH is also great for MP support with -10% MP casts with appropriate Arts up, occasional Strategems (Alacrity + all available fast cast gear is hilarious, spells go off around 20%), and good base MP. Also potentially useful for Bio II/III, since with Dark Arts and enough Dark magic skill gear you have enough to hit the upper DoT tier.
One last thing, as a 75 RDM and BLU, it drives me up a wall when RDM's/WHM's refuse to haste a BLU since they have Refueling. Not only does the Haste spell have a more potent haste effect than Refueling, it also costs BLU's 4 points that could go into something much more useful to the party, and takes time and MP for the BLU to cast, which in most cases would be better suited for a RDM to be spending than the BLU. This is particularly important when fighting enemies that quick/constant Head Butt stunning is key, such as imps and goblins. --Araius 13:00, 3 January 2008 (EST)
- I don't have WotG, and probably won't be getting it any time soon, so I can't really comment authoritatively on /DNC and /SCH for RDM (since you posted it in Talk though, someone will probably find your run-down helpful). I was a little disappointed when I heard specifics about those classes, but it's good to hear that there are edge cases where they are viable. I agree with regard to Refueling, so the Haste section probably needs an update. I get into fights with BLU about that spell, I can only assume that they are so used to being ignored in Haste orders that they use Refueling so they aren't left completely out. C'est la vie. --Liselle 14:04, 3 January 2008 (EST)
