Introduction
Just like avatars and automatons, Beastmaster pets may participate in skillchains and perform Magic Bursts. Knowledge of these combinations can help you select the right pet for a given situation, since skillchains and magic bursts are important sources of damage. Of course, there are far more combinations with other weapons and abilities than I will list here. This guide aims to be a starting point focused on Beastmasters and their pets; you are encouraged to use the other resources on this wiki or third party sites such as the FFXI skillchain calculator for more complete information. Another excellent resource for Beastmasters is Killer Instinct: The Beastmaster Compendium.
I have not yet been able to test all of the skillchain properties myself; the information in this guide is a compilation of the above sources. If you find an error, feel free to correct it!
Beastmaster Weapon skills
Beastmasters can gain access to the following Weapon skills:
Axe
Skillchains
This section only lists level 2 and higher skillchains, because these provide the highest damage bonuses. Each skillchain has its own table with details about which skillchain properties are involved in creating it. In these tables, skillchains are listed in normal type, weapon skills in bold and pet abilities in italic. Additionally, each pet ability is annotated with its Ready charge cost and links to the page of the highest level jug available, which describes the pet in more detail. In order to keep the number of separate entries manageable, all abilities that possess a required skillchain property are listed together. However, many abilities have multiple properties; wherever a combination will produce a different skillchain, both abilities will be marked with the same superscript to indicate this.

* Ruinator gains the Darkness skillchain property under the effect of Aeonic Aftermath from the Tri-Edge. In this situation, it may also be used to close a Darkness skillchain with Umbra.
Light

- Light <-> Light
Note that Beastmasters do not have access to the Light skillchain property, so their weapons cannot be used to create the final "double" Light. However, two pet abilities can: Hoof Volley (3) and Pentapeck (3).

Magic Bursts
Several pets have abilities that deal magical damage. All of these can be used after the appropriate skillchain to create a magic burst. As can be seen in the table below, the Darkness half of the spectrum is far more populated than Light. On the other hand, Lizard pets have the unique capacity to self-skillchain (Fusion) and magic burst using three single-charge abilities: Brain Crush -> Tail Blow -> Fireball.

Toxic Spit (2) |
Fireball (1) |
