Overview

Each enemy possesses a resist rank to each of the eight elements, which affect elemental damage and status effects in multiple ways. For status effects that can Immunobreak, the status effects have resist ranks that may diverge from the base resist rank of their element.

Resist ranks do not apply to players.

Resist States

Skillchains

Historically, resist ranks have been specified in terms of the Skillchain damage multiplier, as it is often the easiest way to determine the resist rank. If you see a resist rank specified in terms of a percentage, this is the number it's referring to.

During the Magic Burst window of any Skillchain, all elements eligible to be Magic Bursted have their resist ranks reduced by one.

Magic Bursts

Magic Evasion

Resist ranks have a significant impact on the enemy's magic evasion. The mechanism by which this occurs is not well understood, but it's likely modifying the enemy's stat ranks. How this translates to exact magic evasion values is not known for most enemies. As such, the values in the table above are merely an approximation of the effect on magic evasion. As a rule of thumb, enemies with resist rank 7 or above will require significant assistance from buffs in order to reliably land spells unresisted, and magic hit rate will typically be floored against enemies with resist rank 11, regardless of equipment or buffs.

Absorb

Elemental absorb functions like resist rank -4. An enemy that absorbs an element will heal from any damage of that element, and that element will always be considered the one to which the enemy is the weakest. Therefore, Skillchains with multiple elements will always pick the one which heals the enemy. Additionally, enfeebling effects which cannot Immunobreak cannot be resisted by enemies which absorb the matching element unless they have a specific immunity to the effect in question.
