Volatile Matamata

From FFXI Wiki
General Notes
  • Exploitable Weakness: The total physical and magical that is dealt between TP moves is compared and Volatile Matamata will take half damage from the higher dealt type and double damage from the lesser dealt type after the next TP move. This effect is cumulative, up to seven times. If the boosted type of damage becomes greater than the reduced damage during any individual cycle, damage resistances and weaknesses will reset after the next TP move.
    • As an example, by utilizing exclusively physical damage between TP move cycles until melee hits are consistently 0, two monks with Formless Strikes can quickly defeat the NM from full HP (note that the NM is fairly evasive and Accuracy-boosting effects are recommended).
    • Once one type of damage has reached 0 (and the other has reached 128x), resistance and weakness will automatically reset after the next TP move, regardless of whether the opposing damage type was dealt.
    • TP moves utilized by Volatila Matamata are time-based (45-60 seconds between moves), not TP-based.
