Brass Statue

From FFXI Wiki

The Brass Statue is used to input passwords found on 3 other statues to open the path to the highest level monsters in the area. These statues can be found spread apart throughout Castle Oztroja and change their password at the turn of the Vana'diel day at 00:00. Due to this, "cracking" the password is often used to gain entry beyond the trap door.

If you want to guess them, the Brass Statue has several possible combinations of the 16 password possibilities. Entering each password in turn will result in an "incorrect" response or ask for the next password. By working through the list one at a time, it is possible to find all three passwords

  • It is entirely possible to just guess the three password code without ever going to the other statues.
  • Statues that give passwords are located at: Map 1 (H-9); Map 2 (H-9); Map 3 (I-8). All statues are in the tiny rooms at those positions.
  • Anyone can fall through the trap door while it is open, no matter who gave the password.
  • The passwords are case-sensitive.
  • When you are saying the words, the order does not matter.
    • Although the statues say things like "The first word. It reads ____" and the lever on the top floor says "Say the first word", it doesn't really work that way. You can enter the second or third word as the first word.
    • If you looked at the "first" statue, then guess the other words first. That way you don't have to keep typing the first word every time you guess.
  • Certain other sources of information might have other words present for this, but those words almost certainly are not any of the actual passwords used for the official servers & client.

  • If you know the 10 possible words, it should take you at most 12 word inputs to successfully open the trap door.
    • Your log does not re-echo the names you say, and you can't tell what worked just by scrolling back up – so consider making a mental or written note of the successful words.
    • Remember that passwords re-randomize on the start of each Vana'diel day at 00:00.
    • For an easy alphabetical listing to copy/paste: Buxu Deggi Duzu Gadu Haqa Mjuu Mong Ouzi Puqu Xicu

Lore/Trivia

While many of the passwords are the last names of Yagudo NMs, two do not follow the apparent pattern yet are still valid passwords:

  • Gadu - Possible transliteration of "God": as a Theocracy, it would be an important word in their language but not a name to give a person.
  • Mong - Possible transliteration of the "Mon" in Eyy Mon: if the Yagudo alphabet has a ŋ sounding consonant that can either be written as "n" or "ng" in common languages.

In original areas, these 8 NMs share the names of the passwords:

These NMs in the same areas didn't have passwords associated with them:

Naturally, some of their names got included speculatively in password lists, along with first names of Yagudo NMs, such as that of Zhuu Buxu the Silent.
Regardless of the echoes of these guesses, they are not actually part of the password rotation in Castle Oztroja.
A few of the incorrect passwords appear to be misreadings caused by jpeg compression. When screenshots of maps have additional information added to them, like the positions of NMs or landmarks, it degrades the quality of the jpeg. (Buxu->Duxo, Xicu->Misu, Ouzi->Ovzi)
