Guide by Arkevorkhat of Bahamut
As your journey through Vana'diel continues, you may find that your equipment doesn't meet your needs. This guide aims to help ease your gear progression by guiding you towards lower level gear choices that will help you as you continue to level up.
JSE Equipment
This is the category that is most important to your endgame. JSE Equipment is split into 3 main categories: Artifact Armor, Relic Armor, and Empyrean Armor.
note: Geomancer and Rune Fencer exist outside of this section's recommended progression. They start receiving JSE armor at level 99, and their armor starts at item level 109.
Artifact Armor
Artifact armor is the first category you will gain access to for all jobs.
To get access to artifact armor, you first need to complete your job's artifact weapon quest. Artifact weapon quests open between levels 40 and 42 for most jobs, Scholar being the exception, starting at level 46.
See Artifact Armor for more information on your job's Artifact quests.
Relic Armor
Relic armor is likely not going to be feasible to obtain until you reach level 99. It is obtained by grinding in Dynamis zones. Each Dynamis zone has a number of pieces that are associated with it, and each piece has one original Dynamis zone and one Dreamworld Dynamis zone associated with it.
If you choose to grind for your job's relic armor, Dreamworld Dynamis has easier progression associated with it, only requiring you to defeat one specific boss to progress.
See Relic Armor for more information on the Dynamis zones needed for your job's relic armor.
Empyrean Armor
Empyrean Armor drops from Abyssea. While empyrean pieces are generally quite strong for their jobs, they are also among the most difficult to obtain and upgrade.
- Head and Hand armor is available for purchase from Cruor Prospectors
- Body Armor is purchased from Dominion Tacticians using currency from Dominion
- Leg Armor is purchased using Resistance Credits from Bastion Prefects
- Foot armor is obtained from Gold Sturdy Pyxises
See Empyrean Armor for more information.
