Artifact Armor is a category of armor and garb that is tailored specifically for each individual job.

A quest chain starting when your job is Level 40+ (66+ for Rune Fencer and Geomancer) yields a job specific weapon in addition to the five main pieces. In order to complete all five pieces, some jobs require the completion of a Borghertz's Hands Quest and opening various coffers, while others require a specific NPC to craft the piece for you.

The lore of Vana'diel and the jobs is greatly tied to this questline.

NOTE: Geomancer and Rune Fencer lack traditional Artifact Armor, instead are able to obtain Item Level 109 Reforged Artifact Armor in the usual Artifact Armor manner without the need of the actual reforging process. This means, that while the quests can be started below Level 99, the resultant rewarded Artifact set can only be equipped when these jobs are Level 99.
