Talk:Mana Booster

From FFXI Wiki

Accuracy of the 2011 Forum Translation

Before 2011, this page used to say that Mana Booster reduced the cast time of your automaton's magic, but after 2011 it now says it reduces the automaton's recast timer by a certain amount. This seems to come from a Forum Post where someone wrote that Mana Booster reduces recast time (https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/11567-ATTN-Community-Reps-Dev-Team-PUPs-of-Vanadiel-DEMAND-a-response-on-Automaton-A.I.!?p=151415&viewfull=1#post151415). In fact, it doesn't even say "reduces recast time by -2 seconds etc." it just says "(-2,-4,-6,-8)" I've gone through the Japanese wiki and it's saying that Mana Booster gives the automaton Fast Cast. Fast Cast of course reduces both cast time and recast time which might be where this confusion comes from. Both the English and the Japanese in-game description of Mana Booster refer to the cast time, so I think the description of the effects ought to be rewritten. I'm going to try and test if Mana Booster works like Fast Cast, or if it only affects cast time, or only recast time. --Koume (talk) 06:18, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Mana Booster does not reduce spell recast time. I had my automaton with no attachments attack a worm, it cast
stone at 0s
poison at 9.5s
dia at 20.8s
stone at 30.6s
stone at 54.5s
stone at 77.0s
Then I put on Mana Booster, used 3 ice maneuvers and had it fight another worm, it cast
stone at 0s
poison at 9.05s
dia at 21.42s
stone at 30.5s
stone at 52.6s
stone at 75.0s
I tested both cases 3 times each, these are the averages, Fast Cast hypothesis would lead me to believe that stone would have its recast time reduced by about 6-8 seconds, but this only reduces it by ~2 seconds, not even accounting for animation locking or just random delay that happens in general. I'm now going to test the cast times. --Koume (talk) 07:32, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Mana Booster reduces spell cast time. I had my automaton cast stoneskin on me.
zero maneuvers took ~8 seconds from the start of the animation to the part in the animation where the automaton raises its hand in the air.
three maneuvers took ~4 seconds from the start of the animation to the part in the animation where the automaton raises its hand in the air.
This lines up closely with the Japanese wiki's stated cast time reduction of ~0.6 at three maneuvers. --Koume (talk) 08:12, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

  • Feel free to update the page to casting time and not recast. --Spicyryan (talk) 11:34, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
