Talk:Sybaritic Samantha

From FFXI Wiki

The NM spawns as Steamy Samantha and acts as a typical Morbol. At about 80% the NM will depop and re-spawn as Sultry Samantha. This change will force players to disengage and the NM will respawn unclaimed as Steamy Samantha. The NM does not start with restored health and its health bar will be based of the health of Steamy Samantha. Sultry Samantha uses Sweet Breath frequently. At about 50% Sultry Samantha will depop and a red Morbol (Ameretat) Sybaritic Samantha will spawn. Only the third phase of the battle allows players trigger a Blue Proc (!!) via the use of weaponskills when Sybaritic Samantha is readying its own TP move. Samantha's special attacks are conal and not AoE.

This NM can be handled by a well-balanced party of item level 119 players. Parties should consist of 4 or more damage dealers. A healer or two capable of curing 1000 or more damage within 6 seconds is required to have sufficiently geared DD tank the enemy without dying.

Positioning was important for me here (as a solo with trusts player) – I summoned these in order to have them stand away from Bad Breath when either I or the tank would get hit by it: Yoran-Oran, Zeid II, Koru-Moru, Cornelia, and Gessho (to offtank away from me). In this setup it doesn't matter whether I have hate or not, as Gessho is standing across from where the spawn location is, and Yoran-Oran keeps his distance from me even though he's the first one summoned in the line of trusts.

The biggest risk generally for this fight is that you suffer a bind between phases (or worse, are slept and don't have hate) and aren't able to re-engage Samantha during the transitions, in which case things go downhill very quickly. So, if you can survive the damage of the bad breath during phase transitions (it's BDT if you want to mitigate it - so not physical/magical but general DT works), just face-tank it and have everyone else out of the blast. Cleared this 20+ times in a row now, and my party has pretty much been planted still in position the whole time. Don't panic during phases when your health goes in the red, just calmly re-engage your Attack using F8 so your trusts re-activate - if you have hate you'll already have the right target, which can make things easier.

The 3rd phase is a DPS race. I wasn't able to do this initially and it took a little gearing for me to be able to do reliably (I could only do it when getting blue procs), but it might help to save your TP until the final form is spawned and you're engaged. The HP will be set to what the percent was prior to each re-spawn rather than any fixed value, but I've definitely experienced multiple times where the prior form seems to wait to despawn to bait me into blowing my TP and then having it take no damage at all from those. I'm just spamming Savage Blade as a THF/WAR for this session, but this setup could be replicated in anything so long as it can survive the breath and a couple hits between phase transitions.
