Chests in Abyssea come in three different varieties with different effects as listed below.

The potential level of a colored pyxis is determined by the corresponding light of the player who dealt the final blow to the monster that dropped the pyxis.
- Certain Abyssites (listed in the above table) will occasionally cause a chest to be a stronger than it would be normally.
- Bastion in Scars zones and Dominion in Heroes zones can also cause chests to spawn stronger than they would normally.
It is possible to tell the relative power of a chest from the amount of cruor that you get from destroying it. (Although it is much easier to rest to examine the proper light.)
