Discussion
I've seen both 0.0 and 1.0 as possible craftmanship results for NQ and HQ. The 0.0s even happened when rotating 3 synths, but by then I had done a load of geodes so maybe it has a memory past that (or it's just RNG).
It definitely feels like the NQ gives a result in the range 0.0-0.5 and trends lower as you do more of that synths, while HQ is 0.5-1.0. I'm seeing a lot of 0.0 as I continue to make NQ geodes while rotating 3 recipes. --Mudcake (talk) 19:26, 10 February 2017 (EST)
Go ahead and add that info to the page. I just threw this together for people to have a reference. Funkworkz (talk) 22:51, 10 February 2017 (EST)
Done, needs some verification but it seems both phases treat and reward HQ1/2/3 appropriately (i.e. HQ3 is better than HQ1 for both types of points). Even for things like ingots that don't get a different result. --Mudcake (talk) 00:06, 11 February 2017 (EST)
Phase 2: It's late so just some notes in case someone is wondering. 1) You simply need to zone after trading your shield to the Mithra and talk to her again to start Phase 2, no new game day BS. 2) Your shield reverts to 0.0% Craftmanship, BUT retains skill+1 and does NOT have an increased break rate. It seems that it will be more useful to use during typical crafting instead of having to rotate junk synths to get points. Since you probably need a bunch of crafter points it'll go well with that. --Mudcake (talk) 07:10, 10 March 2017 (EST)
Small note - I only did enough to get to 9.56% but noticed I gained success rate -1 on the shield. It probably gets worse as we go higher this time, the opposite of before. --Mudcake (talk) 07:56, 10 March 2017 (EST)
Synth Suggestions
Alchemy
So, since we can't really ignore the shield objectives and spam Holy Waters from stage 3 onwards here are some easy or cheap things I have been making to meet them. Given how easy it is to hold on to or HP around to get these items. It is worth doing for craftsmanship % on stage 2 as well.
Fire: | Beeswax | Chips from the NPC, and distilled water is around the corner in the Bat's Lair Inn upstairs. |
Earth: | Alchemy Kit 15 | |
Water: | Yellow Textile Dye | Just one item (Turmeric), and it is ~400 gil from the Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno/Norg/Nashmau. |
Wind: | Alchemy Kit 10 | |
Ice: | Tsurara | Salt and Water from the cooking guild or bridge in Western Adoulin. |
Lightning: | Carbon Fiber | You can buy bomb ash in the metalworks or you can just get a few stacks of djinn ash and carry 4xs less. The ashes drop 50% of the time in Abyssea - Grauberg (#08). I spent ~20 minutes here then never had to go back. You can also do Cornstarch which is instant and cheap. However it takes twice the inventory, and is not a Novice/Apprentice synth. |
Light: | Holy Waters | Spam these for any other objectives. |
Dark: | Alchemy Kit 5 |
Recruit/Initiate | Alchemy Kit 15 |
Novice/Apprentice | Carbon Fiber |
Journeyman/Craftsman | Holy Water |
Artisan/Adept | Holy Maul - Use for some of the holy waters. Mauls are level 31 from the Sparks NPC. |
Veteran and Expert | Skip, no1curr, same for material #s. |

Spamming Holy Water synths is still a viable option all the way through stage 4. It'll just be slower and you'll almost never get gains from NQ synths that don't meet a special objective. I was able to go from 50% to 100% on roughly 1200 Holy Water synths. --Zachery.
Bonecraft
GPS: (gil per synth, not including crystal cost or the amount of gil you receive for reselling to an NPC)
Fire: | Gelatin (Bone Chip x4 recipe) | Bone Chips from your Green Thumb Moogle are 40%~ cheaper than at the Guild.
Est Cost: 374 GPS |
Earth: | Fang Necklace (Set lv 15 synth) | NPC results
Est Cost: 650 GPS |
Lightning: | Not worth doing | |
Wind: | Bone Hairpin | Results NPC for more than the bone chip costs. Pure profit if you farm the wind crystals.
Est Cost: 91 GPS |
Dark: | Not worth doing |
Recruit/Initiate | Bone Hairpin
Results NPC for more than the bone chip costs. Pure profit if you farm the wind crystals. Est Cost: 91 GPS |

Goldsmithing
- Copper ingots will be the primary route most take for Craftsmanship.
- This is because it is a low crafting skill synth, which means you will likely be 51+ skill over for higher HQ chances, meaning more Craftsmanship bonuses, but also the materials can be bought infinitely from Teerth.
- Your primary cost on the synth will be your supply of Fire Crystals.
- My recollection is that phase 3 shield was about 1000 synths for Craftsmanship stage, and phase 4 shield was about 2000-2200 synths.
- You will need plenty of crystals for this journey.
- For long crafting sessions with Macaron or Rusk buff, you can take advantage of Sanction in Aht Urghan Whitegate or Sigil in Bastok/Sandy/Windy [S] with meal duration bonus, and pop your food for 1 hour instead of 30 minutes.
- Sigil meal duration boost appears to be better/longer than Sanction
- The table below is merely suggestions for what you could use to meet the bonus conditions, and is not the end-all-be-all choice one has to make to do it the "right way"
- If it helps paint a better picture, I personally only did the tier objectives if I could meet it with geodes or avatarites, else I kept on doing ingots
- My worst shield penalty was at -13 as a result of this, but your mileage may vary
Craftsmanship Bonus Tier | Synth | Comments |
Amateur (1-10) | Copper Ingot | Keep on crafting with what you're already using. |
Recruit (11-20) | Brass Zaghnal | Buy Goldsmithing Kit 15 from Teerth |
Initiate (21-30) | Silver Belt | Buy Goldsmithing Kit 25 from Teerth |
Novice (31-40) | Tigereye Ring | Buy Goldsmithing Kit 35 from Teerth |
Apprentice (41-50) | Peridot Earring | Buy Goldsmithing Kit 45 from Teerth |
Journeyman (51-60) | Geode synths (Flame, Snow, Breeze, Soil, Thunder, Aqua, Light, Shadow) | Buy from auction house, or save up from various XP/CP/BCNM type activities |
Craftsman (61-70) | Clear Topaz, Platinum Ring, Platinum Earring, Platinum Chain | Goldsmithing Kits stock is no longer guaranteed at higher levels, so simple synths are likely your best bet. |
Artisan (71-80) | Translucent Rock, Fusion Bolt Heads | Buy from AH, otherwise I'd ignore this bonus. |
Adept (81-90) | Avatarite synths (Ifritite, Shivite, Garudite, Titanite, Ramuite, Leviatite, Carbite, Fenrite) | Buy from AH or saved up from XP/CP/BCNM type activities. |
Veteran (91-100) | Not worth it. | Not worth it. |
Expert (101-110) | Not worth it. | Not worth it. |

Completing Stage 4 and Infusing Craftsman Crystal with Spirit
Has anyone figured out how much spirit you need to infuse? I've put 128 in and no luck yet. This could be a good, long grind. -- Zachery
Feel foolish to be answering my own question, but according to discussion on FFXIAH.com forum, the requirement may be as high as 128,000 spirit points. This is based on estimates from people measuring the increase in the filling of the Transmutation bar after obtaining a known amount of spirit. - Zach (please sign your posts with the pencil or four ~ s)
Stage 4 Spheres
Cards
Drops
I am starting this spreadsheet to track card drops. Please feel free to confirm/deny/add further questions that might be important.
Also, assistance in drop info is greatly appreciated. Add all monsters that you kill, whether they drop cards or not.
Answered Questions:
- Having shield equipped is NOT required to obtain a card.
- Cards drop for everyone into the loot pool. You do NOT need to be on the last stage/in possession of Reassembling technique to get a card.
- Ionis not required to obtain cards.
- Regions seem to have no difference on drops, only mob families.
- Cards are not exclusive to certain mobs families. Multiple families drop Light cards, for instance.
- Each family seems to be unique though. Example: Matamata only drop Light cards, no other card type.
- Confirmed on the Official Forum that card types are fixed to different monster families.
- Weather does not seem to be a factor.
- NOT able to be Stolen or Despoiled.
- Confirmed on the Official Forum that Treasure Hunter works for card drop rate.
- There have been no reports that cards drop from monsters in "outdoor" areas. So far, we have only found them in dungeons.
- Furthermore, Outer Ra'Kaznar has not had any drops.
