Costume is a status effect granted by using certain enchanted equipment or items that allows the player to temporarily transform into a different model. The effect typically prevents interaction with any type of NPC (including doors), and is removed upon zoning, when an enemy performs an action against you, or when the status wears off (generally 60 minutes). Aside from movement, no action can be taken while wearing a costume (the costume status may be cleared manually from the list of status icons).

• Note: Unlike other costumes, the "young chocobo" costume granted by Chocobo Beret or Destrier Beret offers enhanced movement speed and can be retained across zones.

Enhanced by equipment

• Certain unique pieces of gear increase the wearer's movement speed while a costume effect is active:
  • Pitchfork +1 (+12%)
  • Snow Bunny Hat +1 (+25%, White Rabbit costume only)

Equipment granting effect

• All pieces of equipment which have costume enchantments are level 1 and may be equipped by any job. Costume effects are self-targeted but certain items offer costumes that apply to other members in the player's party. Most costume enchanted items are obtained either through special in-game events or by obtaining registration codes with certain purchases outside the game. Certain costume items allow the user to be transformed into more than one type of costume - for these items, the type chosen is random on each use.
