I went 1/1 as PLD/BLM. This fight uses an Omen instance so be prepared to wait if the Omen lines are long. You can expect to use all 10 minutes as enemies keep spawning. When you see the correct message from the NPC indicating you are both killing at the same pace, time your next kill to be after the NPC's kill, so you're always just 1 kill behind him. I used /BLM for Sleepga to mitigate interrupts and nonsense. I always targetted a mob that the NPC wasn't targetting so that I could be ready for a quick kill to catch-up to the NPC. (As PLD, I was able to kill each mob with a single WS, just happened to be KoTR for about 20k damage, and this is probably overkill.

My last message was the "not one ilm" message, which according to BG-Wiki implies that the NPC was ahead by 1-2 kills, but I keep count and we differed 1 kill. I still got the successful cutscene at the end, and the reward.

Thank you for providing your observations on the messages and kill count.

I created the table and would like to explain what data was used. I had 5 failures and 2 successes on two characters. I do feel the numbers given in the table have up to 2 kills margin of error. It's possible you don't have to have exactly the same kills.

Done the fight on my 2nd try.

Instead of letting him say "feel the power swelling up inside" in log as wiki suggested, I kept him repeating between "I won't lose" and "Keep at it", Because I found it would be too late to keep your kills up with him when only a few mobs left. (see the attached screenshot on the right.)

War/Drg, just auto-attack and hold TP. When current target is at low HP that can be killed in your next AoE WS, swap to another, then circle blade (still on TP set) or any other AoE steal his kills <_<

Killed a total of 16 enemies in the BCNM.

I think you have to let him Tank everything so no AoE's. But help him kill mobs or you will timeout. Checking my Log I killed 14 while Nii Aquu killed 16, but he tanked everything until I engaged single targets.

I did this battle three times, first time I killed all the mobs, second let Nii Aquu solo it, third helped.

It worked for me to kill everything with auto-attacks, instead of WSing.

• Solo fights where trusts cannot be called.
• Had a harder time on tank and mage jobs and decided to tank/separate mobs away from Nii Aqui to limit his AoE damage.
  • Nii tends to clobber a few mobs in tandem midway through the fight.
  • Sweep can hit the primary target for 4-8k damage and secondary targets for 1-1.5k
• Aiming to steal kills from Nii was also viable to help control his pace. Several low tier nukes would finish a Katashiro.
