About the Wyvern
The wyvern is the loyal companion of every Dragoon in Vana'diel, summoned through the job ability Call Wyvern. They remain by their side until dismissed or defeated.
- If dismissed with the pet command Dismiss at 100% HP, the recast timer for Call Wyvern will be reset.
- The SP ability Spirit Surge will dismiss a wyvern and disables Call Wyvern while in effect.
- A wyvern will disappear if its master is defeated or charmed.
- A wyvern will disappear if its master rents a Chocobo from an NPC. Summoning a Mount or using a Chocobo Whistle will not affect a wyvern.
- Wyverns will not disappear when changing areas or receiving level restrictions.
Wyverns are considered Dragoons and thus share the same traits such as Accuracy Bonus and Attack Bonus. Unlike regular Dragoons, they also receive Subtle Blow traits.
A wyvern's level is the same as its master's at the time of summoning.
- Wyverns will not increase in level without reusing Call Wyvern or changing areas. Level restriction effects from battlefields and Level Sync must be reset in a similar manner.
- At level 99, the wyvern's level will further rise with the item level of the Dragoon's mainhand weapon. Unlike regular levels, this can increase or decrease at any time by changing weapons.
Parameter Increase
A Dragoon and wyvern will receive a temporary parameter bonus for every 200 Experience Points or Limit Points earned, for a maximum of five bonuses at 1000 points. This bonus bestows numerous benefits for both master and wyvern.
- Upon receiving each bonus, the wyvern's HP will be restored to full and a message will appear.
- Each merit in Empathy effectively provides 200 experience points when using Spirit Link. A Dragoon with 5/5 merits in Empathy may maximize the bonus immediately with a single use of Spirit Link.
- This bonus is reset upon zoning, loss of the wyvern, starting a Unity or Geas Fete battle, or otherwise receiving a level restriction.
The bonuses are as follows:
- For the Dragoon per parameter increase:
- For the Wyvern per parameter increase:
- HP +6% (Cap: +30%)
- Attack +4.6875% [12/256] (Cap: +23.4375% [60/256])
- Accuracy +6 (Cap: +30)
|
Wyvern Emotes
The wyvern will perform an emote along side the Dragoon when the following are used:
- /Blush
- /Bow
- /Cheer
- /Clap
- /Dance
- /Goodbye and /Wave
- /Hurray
- /Joy
- /Panic
- /Point
- /Salute
- /Shocked and /Surprised
The wyvern will also /sit and /heal with you.

Combat Stats
Wyvern Base Stats
|
Wyverns deal slashing damage and have an attack delay of 320. They are unaffected by abilities such as Smite, Hasso or other traits/abilities which are intended for two-handed weapons.
Wyverns posses an innate -40% Damage Taken. This is cumulative with other damage taken gear for pets, as well as buffs like Shell, and caps at -87.5%. They also receive a +50% Defense bonus which is applied after the base value listed here.
These HP values are the base before the parameter increases. Wyvern HP+ equipment and Gifts are added to the base before the parameter increases gained by the wyvern increase it further.

Wyvern Types
Types of Wyverns
|
A Wyvern has three different types it may be. The current type of a Wyvern is set solely by the Support Job of the Dragoon.
|
Type
|
Required Support Job
|
Description
|
Offensive Wyvern
|
None, WAR, MNK, THF, BST, RNG, SAM, COR, PUP, DNC
|
This is the de facto Wyvern type. A Wyvern will use an elemental damage breath whenever the Dragoon uses a Weaponskill. See: Elemental Breath
|
Defensive Wyvern
|
WHM, BLM, RDM, SMN, BLU, SCH, GEO
|
The Wyvern will use a soothing removal breath whenever the Dragoon uses a Weaponskill if an applicable status ailment is active on the Dragoon. The Wyvern will also be capable of healing the Dragoon and party members after triggered to by the Dragoon when their HP has gone below a certain threshold and any spell is cast by the Dragoon (via their support job). See: Healing Breath
|
Multipurpose Wyvern
|
PLD, DRK, BRD, NIN, RUN
|
This is a combination of both Offensive and Defensive Wyverns. Elemental Breaths will be used after a Weaponskill, but not Removal Breaths. The Wyvern will cure the Dragoon only, and the HP threshold to do so is lower than a purely Defensive Wyvern.
|
Elemental Breath
Elemental Breath
|
Elemental Breaths are triggered after a Dragoon finishes a weapon skill or uses Smiting Breath.
- Only offensive and hybrid type wyverns may use an Elemental Breath following a player's weapon skill.
- The selected breath is determined exclusively by an opponent's elemental resistances at the time of activation.
- Magic damage reduction, elemental damage reduction and absorption, elemental magic accuracy buffs such as Klimaform, or equipment such as the Drachen Armet/+1 or Vishap Armet/+1/+2/+3 have no bearing on a wyvern's choice of breath.
- Effects that lower enemy resistances such as Threnody or Skillchains are factored into this choice.
- In the event of a tie for lowest resistance, the element is selected in the following order of Fire → Ice → Wind → Earth → Thunder → Water.
- These abilities are considered Breath damage, meaning they are unaffected by Magic Attack Bonus, Magic Defense Bonus, Magic Damage, magic damage reduction, the day of the week, or weather.
- Elemental Breaths are subject to magic resist rates.
- Breath accuracy is directly affected by a wyvern's current HP.
- Breaths may be magic bursted for an undetermined increase in accuracy.
- Elemental Breaths do not feed any TP to targets.
Base Elemental Breath damage is determined by the following formula:
- Damage Dealt = floor[floor([Wyvern Currrent HP / 6] + 15 + (Breath Job Points * 10)) * (1 + Enhances Breath Equipment/256)] * [1 + (Breath Augments/100) + Deep Breathing Modifier]
- Deep Breathing Modifier = 0.75 + (Deep Breathing Merits * 0.25) + Augment Deep Breathing
- Augment Deep Breathing = 0.1 per merit including the first

Healing Breath
Healing Breath
|
Healing Breath will activate anytime a Dragoon casts a spell when below the appropriate HP threshold (see below). Using Restoring Breath will force a wyvern to use Healing Breath regardless of HP or subjob. Range is 14 yalms from wyvern
Healing Breath corresponds to the following formula:
- HP Recovered = [([(Wyvern Max HP)*(Breath Multiplier/256)] + Healing Breath Base + (Breath Job Points * 10)) * (1 + (Breath Augments/100))]
- Breath Multiplier = Σ(Healing Breath Value + Enhances Breath Equipment + Deep Breathing Modifier)
- Deep Breathing Modifier = floor([37.5 + (12.5 * Deep Breathing Merits)] + Augment Deep Breathing)
- Augment Deep Breathing = 5 per merit including the first

Healing Breath Activation Threshold
|
For the purposes of activation, any magic spell may be used, including Trust Magic.
- An offensive wyvern will not use Healing Breath when casting Trust magic.
- Summoning Magic cannot be used to activate Healing Breath due to pet restrictions.
Activation takes into account a player's HP at the time of the spell's completion. The Dragoon artifact helm (Drachen Armet/+1 or Vishap Armet/+1/+2/+3) may be worn at midcast to trigger a Healing Breath and then changed to a helm that enhances breath potency.

Removal Breath
Removal Breath
|
Removal Breaths take the place of an Elemental Breath with a defensive wyvern. After using a weaponskill, the wyvern will remove a single corresponding status ailment from the Dragoon or party member.
- Remove Disease may remove Virus or Plague.
- Remove Curse may also remove Doom at an estimated 20-25% success rate.

Enhances Breath Equipment
Notes
|
Enhances Breath Equipment has a cap of 64/256.
- Equipment with an augment of "Breath +" is separate from the equipment cap of 64/256 and works based off a x/100 system where 100/100 would effectively double the power of a breath.
