Elemental Magic is a general category which includes spells that fall into one of several main subcategories focused on causing magical damage to enemies. Elemental Magic spells are primarily available to Black Mage and additionally available to Geomancer, Scholar, Red Mage, and Dark Knight.

Elemental Magic skill determines the accuracy and spell interruption rate of Elemental Magic spells. It does not affect the magic damage of any of these spells, with the exception of the spell Meteor.
The damage for nukes and helix spells is calculated from a formula which depends on the caster's and target's various stats. The main caster statistics which affect this damage potential are INT, Magic Attack Bonus, and elemental damage affinity and potency bonuses.

Equipment Bonuses
- Elemental magic bonuses on equipment fall into one of three categories:
- Elemental magic skill bonuses: Directly adds to the player's elemental magic skill
- Elemental magic casting time reduction: Reduces casting time of all spells classified as elemental magic by the percentage listed, stacks with other forms of casting time reduction such as Dark Arts and Fast Cast
- The Elemental Celerity job trait reduces casting time of all elemental magic for Black Mage.
- The Geomancer trait merit Primeval Zeal allows Collimated Fervor to reduce the casting time of the affected elemental magic spell by 10% per merit.
- Elemental magic recast time reduction: Reduces recast time of all spells classified as elemental magic by the percentage listed, stacks with other forms of recast time reduction such as Dark Arts, Haste, and Fast Cast.
